Regina Public Schools is asking the provincial government for nearly $2.5 million in funding to ensure Balfour Collegiate’s well-known facade remains a landmark for years to come after an engineer’s report highlighted the need for repairs.
In January, the division received a report back from JC Kenyon Engineering Inc. that showed the building’s front facade, which faces College Avenue, was leaning toward the street.

On Tuesday, the division board approved a request for $2.45 million — the estimated cost of the renovation project — in emergent funding from the provincial government.
“Balfour Collegiate is experiencing unusual structural movement. Last year a portion of the building was underpinned and a structural beam was replaced. The structure is under continual monitoring,” the request read.
“At some point the front facade will become unstable and will not be salvageable.”
