Support is pouring in for a Broadview area family that lost their home and several of their pets in a fire over the weekend.

Just over $3,000 has been raised on GoFundMe for the Rienks family, whose home just outside Broadview was destroyed by a fire on Sunday. The family of eight was away when the fire happened, however, their two dogs and possibly three cats were lost in the blaze.

Karen Wyatt, a neighbour of the Rienks, has been helping organize assistance for the family.

“Everything takes time. So insurance takes time, things take time to get so we wanted them to not be struggling right at the outset here,” said Wyatt during a phone interview on Monday.

Wyatt said the outpouring of support she’s seen for the family has been overwhelming. Her phone has been ringing constantly with calls and texts from people offering help.

“I just know that when something happens, the community and the surrounding area really rallies together and puts up a big effort to help out,” said Wyatt.
