Elections Regina will review the application and if all criteria are met, a ballot will be sent out with instructions to vote later this fall. If the application does not include proper I.D. requirements, is illegible or does not include sufficient details, applicants may be asked to submit their application in person. Eligible voters may still apply in person at the Election Office.

Applications are accepted until Nov. 9. Mail-in ballots will be sent out mid-late October and must be received at the Election Office by 8 p.m. on Election Day. For more information on the 2020 Municipal/School Board Election, visit Regina.ca/elections or call 306-751-4479.

A bylaw banning single use plastic bags was passed unanimously at a city council meeting this week, but it won’t come into effect until next year to allow people and businesses to prepare.

The bylaw has been in the works since 2019 when Coun. Bob Hawkins (Ward 2) first brought his motion forward.

“It’s designed to prevent litter. It’s designed to preserve the life of the landfill and to avoid water ways from being clogged by these bags,” said Hawkins.

Another possible delay on the implementation of the ban is that it won’t come into effect during an emergency, such as the current pandemic. Mayor Michael Fougere asked administration what if “god forbid” the pandemic was still here in a year if the ban would be delayed.

Administration said that yes, even then in a year’s time the ban would not come into effect if COVID-19 was still active in the city.
